the unknown world
Through the major cultural reference of my childhood, through the feelings of stress and bliss I experienced there, the Unknown World represents the first level of depth in my practice, the original landscape. I then explore, observe and understand the code systems specific to the various other references, themes or events that trouble and have troubled my soul. After a period of analysis and experimentation, cycles of digestion occur, resulting in other microcosms within the Unknown World. These microcosms, with their different natures and problems always illustrated in a blurred, mysterious, melancholy and cryptic way, in order to represent the essence of the dream lurking in the subconscious, make up the life of this World. Ultimately, seen through the eyes of a child, they nourish an absurd perception of the World, of Worlds, of the universe.
Absurdity refers to that which is contrary to reason, that which is not normal, that whose existence is gratuitous and not justified by an end.
From Le Robert dictionary
This pictorial universe was born from my subconscious. Dreams and the unknown inspire me enormously, and the basic impetus for the project came from a video game called ‘The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask’, which touched me a lot with its very specific, even stressful, atmosphere. I began by discovering and analysing its pictorial world, and then I established the codes and rules that make up the Unknown World. My approach isn't necessarily innovative; I'm more interested in being one hundred percent myself in my art. So it's a personal work of contemplation that I serve.
To enrich my universe, in addition to the paintings and other media such as masks, I have designed a font, unknown and illegible at first sight, for use in encrypting messages in my images. It was also made to sense the meaning of the character by its form and not by its substance. As we are in the subconscious, the world is completely different from that of the conscious mind, and this is achieved through language.
